Prague Weekend Escape

Updated: Mar 7, 2021

Best time to go: Prague is nice all year long, whether you prefer to go during the winter where you can find a really picturesque snowed Prague or during the summer where the city enjoys a very nice temperature and the terraces outside, either way it will be a great experience.

The hotel recommended is "MOODs Charles Bridge" located in Old Town area.

Day 1: Arrival

After arrival, if you have time, walk around the old town (the hotel surroundings) and explore the streets around the area. In the Old City Square, you can see the astronomical clock, the Church of Tyn and the city hall.

Recommended diner at "Portfolio Restaurant" just 10 min walking from the Old City Square.

Day 2: Prague Castle and the Old Town

Spend the day walking around the city centre, the suggest itinerary is as follows:

  • Prague Castle - Start the day visiting the Prague Castle which is just 20 min walk from the hotel. Prague Castle is a castle complex built in the 9th century. It is the official office of the President of the Czech Republic.

  • Charles bridge - On the way to the castle, you can cross Charles bridge and keep walking along Mostecká street to arrive to Mala Strana. Charles bridge is a medieval stone bridge that crosses the Vltava river. Its construction started in 1357 and finished in the early 15th century.

  • At Mala Strana you will have to visit San Nicolas Church. You can go up the tower to see the city views.

  • To visit the castle properly you will have to buy the "full ticket". Golden Lane is especially nice, it's one of the nicest streets in Prague where Kafka used to live.

  • After visiting the castle and the San Vito cathedral (that is inside the castle) you walk down the Zámecké schody stairs to Mala Strana along the fort.

Make your way back to the Old Town area to enjoy lunch at "Wine O'clock Shop".

After lunch go visit Powder Gate and from there continue to Wenceslao Square (this is the place where the fall of communism movement started). At the end of the square you can see the national museum and on the left side the opera.

Dinner recommended at " Bellevue" a very elegant restaurant overlooking the Charles Bridge and the river. If you are looking for something more casual and cosy "La Veranda" is a good idea.

Day 3: Josefov

You can start the day visiting Josefov (the Jewish neighbourhood). There you should visit: the commentary and the 6 synagogues. Pinkas, Spanish, Maisel, Klausen, tall and old-new. When you buy the ticket, this includes the visit to the 6 of them.

Once you have finished the visit, you can go for a nice brunch at the "The Hummus Bar".

After brunch, go to Cechuv bridge where you can take a boat to sail the river for one hour.
